Pattinson as Batman

Unless you've been living under a rock for the last couple of months, you'll know there's been talk of Pattinson becoming Batman, and now, it appears to be official.

So, let's talk Batman for a brief minute, and mind you, this opinion is solely my own, but I want to express my opinion on anyone being Batman.

I can count the number of good live-action Batmans on two fingers. And I don't know if that's because I grew up watching animated versions that made him larger than life or if it's because I've read the comic books and therefore understand how he should be... or if it's just because the people cast and the plots made for the movies and shows genuinely suck.

For those who want to know, the only two who I think ever did Batman justice are Christian Bale and Adam West.

Now, let's talk Pattinson. Reality is that I've never liked his looks and I don't find him all that interesting. He simply does not captivate me. Which is not to say he's a bad actor. There's a lot of really good actors that simply just don't do it for me. And I'll give Pattinson one thing, at the bare minimum, he dies well. Which, while people who don't understand me won't get it, is a huge compliment from me.

With that being said, I'm assuming he's going to do badly as batman, but it's not because he's a bad actor - instead it's because the franchise of Batman has been largely disastrous. That being said, I don't think he'll be worse than Clooney.

Twilight Parents

There's all of nine living parents actually mentioned in the Twilight Saga.

Those parents include:

  • Charlie Swan
  • Renee Dwyer
  • Carlisle Cullen
  • Esme Cullen
  • Karen Newton
  • Billy Black
  • Sue Clearwater
  • Harry Clearwater (mentioned all of twice before his death)
  • and Joshua Uley (mentioned once, I think)
And that's it.

Other parents are referred to but never named in the books (E.G. Tiffany Call), and some were mentioned in outtakes (E.G. Mrs. Stanley).

So, here's the thing, out of all these parents, I'm not really impressed with many of them. In my opinion, most of the parental figures were a joke.

I could go down the list on the shortcomings most of these characters have. (I mean they seriously all have them - from absenteeism to lack of concern to barbie mom)

But instead I thought I'd talk about the ones who didn't fail as much as the rest. I don't often show it, because I tend not to use either of them that much, but I find both Sue and Karen to be good parents. They both seem to put into real effort, both seem to care.

Unfortunately, we don't get to see a lot when it comes to Karen, mostly just her working (ironic that she seemed to be the one always there when supposedly her and her husband both owned it). She really only makes a couple of comments throughout the entire series, but there's nothing disparaging about her. What little we get to see of her, she seems like a legitimately decent character.

We get to see more of Sue than Karen, though not by much. One thing that is very evident about Sue, is her desire to protect her kids. Perhaps she's overprotective... but given that both her kids are shapeshifters, the mother in me is saying there's no such thing.

I wish there'd been more of both of them in the saga.

Now, I will say this, I don't dislike most of the other parents, I just find the examples that were displayed in the story to be very lackluster

Make sure to honor those who have fallen in protection of your country when that day comes around.

Information on The Emotional Roller Coaster Of Life

So... I finally finished one of the most difficult projects I ever took on.

254 days, 209 posts, and 134,650 words later (per ffn, which includes everything written)... and The Emotional Roller Coaster Of Life is finally complete.

However, at the end of the day, there are certain points I want to answer that I simply can't in review replies.

Over the course of the story, I had people comment that I was clearly E/B or J/B. Again and again I got those kind of remarks, and again and again, I replied that this story was about the journey. Because, in matter of fact, I was neither. While I was letting the characters lead me where they wanted to go, this story was about growth. And for Bella, that was learning how to stand on her own two feet.

More recently, I've had some people comment that they feel Bella is too harsh on Edward, that she's made her share of mistakes and shouldn't judge him. I wanted to explain, if she'd never had a child, they could have worked. But she separated, not for herself, but for the sake of her kids, no matter how much she would like to be Edward's savior, she couldn't be that and be her kids' protector too.

And finally, I want to talk on the giant elephant. Again and again, I've had commentators who've said that it should have been Leah and not Seth who died. That Seth deserved happiness. That they wish Seth had made it. People don't always get what they deserve. And, ultimately, there was a purpose behind Seth committing suicide, there wouldn't have been with Leah.

I'm sorry if this story disappointed you.

The Emotional Roller Coaster Of Life Afterward Sneak Peek

A second brief teaser of the Afterward:

“We started reading Old Yeller in class today. The teacher told some of the kids who said they'd watched the movie not spill anything. Why would they spill something in regards to the book? What does that mean?” Ephraim chattered to him in his arms.

He barely manage to contain his shock that they were letting the kids read such a sad story, and made a note to ask Bella about who their teacher was. They were only in first grade, after all.

“It's spoil, not spill, and what it means is that there are things which happen in the story that are supposed to be...” He trailed off, not sure how to explain it, but finally settled on. “A surprise. And it's unfair for kids who already know what will happen to tell those of you who don't.”

The Emotional Roller Coaster Of Life Afterward Sneak Peek

A brief teaser of the Afterward:

Emmett picked up his youngest, bouncing the kid on his knee. He knew that a lot of current medical doctors now said it was a bad thing to do, but it was something lots of parents used to do. He knew his father used to and it certainly hadn't hurt him any.

Besides, he liked hearing Jerrimatt, his youngest son, giggle. Morrigan and Sebastian were in second and first respectively, and Valerie would be starting preschool in the fall. He was truly blessed, even if his relationship with his full grown daughter was estranged at best.

Bree, when she'd barely turned eighteen – almost two years prior – had ran off to join Mustang Ranch in Nevada. He'd only talked to her three times since her decision, and each of those three times had left him wanting to drive down there so he could drag her out of that brother by her ear.

Of course, as he didn't want to see her in anything other than as full-clothed, he still hadn't done it.

But the fact that she was prostituting herself out for a living made him want to throw up just thinking about it.

And, okay, pot meet kettle and all that, after all, he'd had the same sexual drive that apparently she'd gotten from him. But he was her dad. He could judge and condemn if he damn well pleased.

The Emotional Roller Coaster Of Life Epilogue Sneak Peek

A brief teaser of the Epilogue:

Rosalie couldn't believe how quickly time had flown by. It felt like only yesterday she had given birth to her baby girl. Of course, while Morrigan was still definitely a little baby, not even thirteen months old, she was no longer Rosalie's little girl.

Instead, she was one hundred percent her dad's angel.

“Da-da!” Morrigan squealed from her play chair, proving Rosalie's point.

“Daddy's not home yet, mommy's here though,” she said.

“Shih!” The little girl kicked her feet to emphasize the swear she'd picked up all too easily.

“Did your daughter just say shit?” Maggie asked on the other end of her computer screen via the live chat.

“Yes, yes she did.”

“Do I even have to ask where she picked that up?”

“No, you most definitely don't.”

Game of Throne Prediction

Now, a slight disclaimer, I don't watch the show and I don't like it (I did watch the first two seasons, so it's not like I'm saying I don't like it without giving it a fair shake), but as the last episode is about 4 hours away from airing, I thought I'd post the prediction I've had since I watched the first two seasons six years ago.

The only thing that will be left at the end of the show will be:

By the Law Teaser

This story is not going to be officially posted for awhile still, but the plot bunny has been plaguing me for long enough now that I decided to write the first scene out and share it.

Enjoy... or don't.

By the Law

Disclaimer: I am not Stephenie Meyer and sadly won't ever own the rights to the Twilight Saga. Unfortunately for me, my mind is like a sieve that enjoys ruining the characters from her saga's lives.

AN: There are a lot of Mafia Fics out there which romanticize the familial bonds that are part of that life without focusing on, or even point out the much darker nature of mafia life. If this is what you're looking for from me, then you are going to be sadly disappointed. This story will deal with Edward Antonio Cullaro, the son of the mafia boss, Carlisle Cullaro, who falls in loves with his personal bodyguard, Jasper Whitlock. Fair warning, there is no HEA in this story.

_____________________________

Prologue

“This is the man I was telling you about, son,” Carlisle said as they stepped into the warehouse on the dock.

“The fag who was cheating on his wife?” Edward asked, keeping his voice cold and collected.

“Yes.”

Edward looked down at the man large man with the broad should who was tied up on the floor in such a way that there was never going to be any escape. He vaguely recognized him, but he wasn't sure why, he knew he'd never actually seen the man.

“Who is he, again?”

“Emmett Swarno, your fiancee's brother.”

Old mafia just like his family then. The man never should have let himself get caught.

It was funny, proclivities such as the one Aro Volturino back in Italy had, with his preference for teenagers, was completely ignored. But being gay was a major no. It was why he was marrying Isabella. No one could ever know that his own desires ran in the same style as the man in front of him.

“Allow me.” Edward held his hand out to his father.

He noticed out of the corner of his eye as his old man smiled, placing the gun in his hand. Edward raised the gun as he walked a few steps closer to the man who was trying to shout from behind his gag. He pulled the trigger, feeling the blow-back of blood and brain matter as the man fell to his side, dead.

The Drive to Finish

As anyone who was reading Death and Rebirth by me when it was posting will remember, when I get close to the end of a story, I start pushing myself to new limits. I like to call it the drive to finish.

I am extremely close to the end of not one, but two different stories. Those two are The Emotional Roller Coaster Of Life and RR. Because of RR's topic, that normal drive I have is a bit muted, but I have every intention to finish Roller Coaster by the end of the month and RR during the first part of the month of June.

This, while I'd like to say it won't affect my other stories, most likely will. So while I will definitely get Chapter 17 - Alliance of Rebirth and Affliction out in the next few days, and most likely Chapter 7 - Reappearance of The Hunter out soon, they will probably be the only two stories I get posts on until I complete both Roller Coaster and RR.

The good news is, with the completion of both Roller Coaster and RR, I'll be able to focus more on my other stories and hopefully find the inspiration to go back to working on The Differences Between Fantasy and Reality and It's A Twin Thing.

This will also let me spend more time on Rebirth and Affliction (and it's numerous outtakes and other pieces), The Hunter, and Necromancy in the Fifth.

Rebirth and Affliction Sneak Peek

A brief teaser of Chapter 17 - Alliance:

I paced the forest floor, trying to find the right words to tell Edythe that I needed to help the wolves with the problem in Seattle but didn't want her involved.

No matter what I contemplated saying though, I could see only one possible reaction, her demanding to come along. And because there were no secrets in our family, Eleanor and Jessamine would want to join in, then Archie and Royal would go as well since their mates were... and soon enough it would be a whole family affair.

Which was exactly what I didn't want. They needed to be safe and I knew they wouldn't be going to Seattle.

Not that I'd be any safer going there, but I owed it to Jules. She'd helped me so much and I honestly wasn't even sure if it was the kind of debt that could ever be paid.

Besides, the newborns in Seattle needed to die.

A Disturbing Trend

So, I don't quite have enough written on Chapter 17 of R&A to get out a sneak peek before midnight... it'll be tomorrow instead. As such I wanted to talk about a... trend I've been seeing a lot by major motion pictures and that is "Live Action"

And here's my issue, I don't mind companies bringing stuff to life. I found Cinderella very well made, love Maleficent , and enjoyed Beauty and the Beast. And obviously I didn't mind the Twilight Saga which used well made animated wolves. But when a movie is more than 75% animated, as is the case with these three - it may be high resolution cgi animation, but it is still animation - then it is not Live Action. So please stop calling it that.

Critters

So I have a friend that lives on the plains and she always compares tumbleweeds to the creatures from critters...

... I'm not sure I see the comparison. And may I just say that those are some seriously ugly suckers.

Necromancy in the Fifth Sneak Peek

A second brief teaser of chapter 3:

The bell on the door rang and I looked over, smiling widely when I spotted Jake with his little sis. Of course, he came in most days, but seeing his little sister was far more rare for me. “Jules, what are you doing here with your big bro?”

“Parents want a 'rent day. Whatever that means.”

I arched an eyebrow at Jake and mouthed, 'sex.'

I snickered slightly. “Well, what would you like to drink, Jules?”

Jules looked over the menu board as I asked Jake, “How are Sarah and Billy?”

“They're doing good, though the doctors are talking about the fact that Billy may lose his left foot, maybe even his entire leg up to his knee.”

My brows furrowed. “Gangrene?”

“Not yet, but it's heading that way. The years of his diabetes is taking it's tole.”

“What's he had to say about it?”

“He's adamantly against it, of course.”

“Can I have a caramel frap?” Jules added in, glancing toward me.

“No espresso,” Jake said immediately.

“Then it's a shake,” I pointed out.

“I don't care. You don't have to monitor the eleven year old brat for the day. I do. And she'll be bad enough hyped up on sugar without adding caffeine to the mix.”

I rolled my eyes. “Fine.”

I turned toward the ice chest to grab the ice I'd need out of it, barely noticing as Jake swiped two of my biscottis and handing one to his little sister.

The Unsung Heroes Contest

Unsung Heroes

Who will society go to shit without?? This includes farmers, ranchers, beekeepers, trash guys, mail carriers, water treatment workers, animal rescuers, teachers, and their aides and includes people like neighborhood watch leaders and scout troop leaders. The grandparents who give up their retirement plans to parent the grandkids, the church ladies who hold back that winter coat for the young single mother who always places her children’s needs first, the young boy who notices his friend never participates in “book week” or dress-up days so encourages other classmates to bring extras so nobody misses out, the dad who works extra shifts to support his family but buys dinner every Friday for the homeless Vietnam vet who sleeps in the park. Did you hear about the pizza guy that stopped the domestic violence? Or the vet techs who got a note slipped to them about the BF abusing her and they called the cops. The heroes that are never thought of as heroes.

This contest has been running for just over a month and still has no entries, so I'm encouraging participation. It's a pretty broad contest for people who've never entered one and has a reasonable minimum word count of 2,000 words.

This is also great way to start writing for people who haven't ever started, because they're nervous, as contests are anonymous.

The competition is running through June 22.

Burned Out

So I was trying to write, I mean really trying, but I just couldn't get a good flow tonight (I think because I exhausted myself mowing my yard earlier). I'm going to try again tomorrow and hopefully find my flow, and really hope to get out Chapter 3 of Necromancy at the minimum.

Tonight though, I'm going to hit the hay.

Triggers

So, while I'm working on some of my stories, specifically Necromancy and R&A, I wanted to talk about something that anyone who has been reading, writing, or leafing through fanfiction over the course of the last thirteen years or so has seen.

And that's WARNING: TRIGGERS

So, if you do not know what that means, here's the very brief overview. A trigger is something that cause a negative reaction for readers, such as major tears, panic attacks, epic break downs, or even a depressive episode.

Often times, people mark triggers for things that include, but are not limited to, suicide, abuse, alcoholism, drug addiction, rape, molestation, murder, etc. But triggers come in and all shapes and sizes. So I thought I'd talk about mine.

A) Illness/Death of children. This is a huge one for me. Those who know me well, know why, but for those that don't lets just say it hits really close to home. I've tried to work through this trigger several times, using it as something in several of my stories, but for those who aren't aware, I bawled the entire time I was writing the one-shot Any Given Day, almost didn't write Serial Black Widow, and have had several major break downs over the course of writing Roller Coaster. It's not something I handle well, though most don't realize it.

B) Cancer. This is another giant one for me, even if the story is one where the person recovers from it, is already in remission, or at least survives through the end of the story, I find it almost impossible to read about it, and even harder to write about. Though, once again it is something I'm trying to work through and have used in the past in my stories.

and finally

C) The words whore, slut, cunt, or bitch when used in a sexual connotation. Now, in a normal conversation, when someone is spewing insults or playing the name calling game, I'm fine with them. I'm also fine with them if their used for what they're meant to be (a dog, a prostitute, and a vagina). But, if someone puts them into a sexual scene, especially one that is meant to kinky, but not abusive/not rape, I can't handle it. It's an immediate shut down for me. I lose it and usually completely stop reading. And unlike the other two, this is something I don't see myself as ever even trying to work through.

Minor Saga Characters Part 1

So, among the Twilight Saga, there's a set of characters that I have an extreme fascination with, and those are the 'one line' characters. Some of the characters who got nothing more than the briefest of mention, are some of the most intriguing to me.

One of my all time favorites is Benito, who I think was actually more like a three-liner, was the first vampire in the west hemisphere to come up with the idea of turning newborns for the sole purpose of fighting other vampires to gain territory. He is assumed dead, because after the "influenza and cholera" black out of the 1830s, the Volturi came in and eradicated the problem, but my assumption is that they actually recruited him. That type of ingenuity is not something that can be taught, and I'd believe Caius, if not Aro himself, would see the value of Benito.

A slightly more than mentioned character who is a favorite of mine is J. Jenks. For some reason, being introduced to this human lawyer who knew entirely too much, tilted the entire universe on the Twilight Saga on its axis. The general from the start of the first book, up through most of the fourth book, was that Bella was the first person they broke the rules with, but Jenks and his unnamed old partner changes that. Sure, Jenks may not know precisely what they are, but he definitely knows enough to be considered a liability.

Another that I like, or at least like to mess with, is John Dowling, a character of dubious mention who we only learn about because of Austin Marks' little brother when she acquires the broke down motorcycles from him. Nearest we can tell, Dowling is the only mechanic in Forks, and because he has the ownership of that market, he is extremely overpriced. I think it's his line of work that draws me to him, because my grandfather and his three brothers all worked on vehicles.

A less recognized one, and I mean seriously less as there's not even an article on her in the Twilight Saga Fandom site, is Jessica from first beach. This is not Jessica Stanley, this was another character with the same name who we assume was from La Push. She never gets a mention other than during Bella's first ever visit to First Beach, and it's almost because of the fact that she's so obscure that she interests me so much.

From Bree's novella, there's Fred, one of only three to survive, and easily the most interesting. I wish that, instead of being Bree's story, it had been Fred's. As I'd have loved to see what had happened to him after he fled.

Writing Aides

So, I want to talk a little bit about writing in general, and part of this is because I often get requests to write stories - and on a rare occasion the idea genuinely interests me, but usually it doesn't, and even when it does, I don't normally have time. The other part is because I've helped a lot of people start out writing in the past.

Now before we get to the links, I want to put my two cents in. If you have an idea, just start writing it. It may not be good, but that doesn't matter, an author's first fic is rarely good. Trust me, I ought to know. Secondly, no matter what the grammar nazzis out there (or even in yourself) say, grammar is not the most important thing when it comes to writing - if you think I'm lying go read your last text conversation. And finally, don't judge yourself too harshly.

So, below are some tools, some may seem obvious, others, not so much:

With writing there are always some homophone words that are more confusing than others, here's a few of the bigger ones.

And finally, for the historical fiction lovers.
