Teaser 2 for Babies at the Boarder

It's been three hundred years since World War III. The remnants of that humanity; of vehicles, electricity, computers, and so much more can be found all around, but the world I know doesn't actually have use of any of that technology.

Three hundred years ago, when World War III ended; after the atomic bombs, mustard gas, and weaponized diseases, there was a matter of a few thousand people left alive.

Over the course of the last three hundred years, the numbers have slowly raised into the hundreds of thousands, mostly thanks to The Shade.

As a child, I grew up in fear of The Shade, the ruling faction that controls not only the government, but the military, education, and even religion. They are what allows the civilized world to exist in peace.

I grew up outside of the civilized world though, and I'm not the only one. My family is a part of a faction of people that don't believe in The Shade's rule. We're the rebellion.

Or at least we were.

Teaser 1 for Babies at the Boarder

Rosalie and Maggie glanced at each other.

Rosalie wasn't sure which of them was actually more surprised that the day had finally arrived. The sign on the building, SWAN SONG FASHION– all shiny and new – was what she was looking at, but it was only the start. It had taken almost a solid two years for her to get a property purchased and the building designed, but she finally had her very own store.

Correction, Maggie and she had a store.

“You going to come inside, or are you two just going to stand outside and admire the sign?” Morrigan asked as she opened the door.

Rosalie glanced at Morrigan, her oldest of six kids. Morrigan was the spitting image of her when she'd been eighteen, but she had her father's attitude. Blunt, sarcastic, and not the least bit polite. Her daughter would be going to off to college to start working towards a degree in law enforcement.

She still wasn't sure how she felt about her daughter following in her husband's footsteps, but she couldn't exactly stop her, besides it wasn't like her daughter was ever going to go into fashion...

No, that was going to be her oldest son.

Rosalie still suspected her two eldest must have had their identities transplanted somehow as kids. After all, weren't boys supposed to go into law enforcement and girls into fashion?

She knew that sounded outdated, but the fact that her Sebastian – with his bleached white hair that was gelled so much that it stuck up, solid black clothing, and nose piercing – was actually a bit of a fashion genius still totally blew her mind.

“Come on, your daughter is getting impatient,” Maggie said.

Rosalie rolled her eyes in exasperation but headed to the doors to go inside her store.

Quote of the Day

"Now we both need a bath."
"That can be arranged."
"Please, Jean-Claude, no sexual innuendo until after I'm clean."
"Of course, ma petite. It was crude of me tonight. My apologies."

Word of the Day

I found these two words in a book series I've been reading, and though both are words I'd heard before, the series used the 'I don't think that means what you think it means' several times and it made me actually look them up.

Catamite - a boy kept for homosexual practices.

Sodomite - a person who engages in anal sex.

"If there's another murder, all bets are off. Murder takes precedence over watching my boyfriend strip."

Still I Rise

This poem is not mine, but it is a favorite of mine and is extremely well known. In honor of one of the most amazing women I've ever studied...

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
’Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I’ll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
Weakened by my soulful cries?

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don’t you take it awful hard
’Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines
Diggin’ in my own backyard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I’ve got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history’s shame
I rise
Up from a past that’s rooted in pain
I rise
I’m a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

Working

So I'm working on my stuff for BatB, and while I'm doing that I thought I'd just remind everyone of something that really goes bump in the night.

The komodo dragon's saliva is acidic. ... I honestly think wings and spitting fire would be less scary.

Every Lemon... Ever

So, once upon a time there was a fanmade fanfiction group I was with. I don't remember the name of the group but I was a member of it and there were forums. At one point, one of these forums had a discussion about sex in fanfic. And somebody, oh so eloquently, linked this video. And to this day I get a laugh.

The Big Question

I think it's the question any writer; be it an author, fanfic writer, script writer, etc gets asked at some point.

The big one.

Why don't you write faster?

And let me be clear, I've seen fanfic authors who were posting 5k+ a day and still get this question. So I know everyone gets asked it at some point.

I don't have an answer for anyone but me. And I'm still not sure I can explain it. For me, whether I'm making a post, writing a fanfic, original fic, or poem, or posting something elsewhere I have a few different pieces I deal with.

I won't call them voices in my head, because they're truly not, its more like instinct than anything else.

I talk about my muse all the time, which is, in essence, what inspires my writing. And when the muse and I don't get along, the writing sort of sucks.

But it's not the only thing I have to work with. There's the banner fairy, which is what helps me make my banners and choose what images I post. The prompt angel, which is almost exclusively used for stuff on facebook, but does have other uses. And finally there's the pull, which is my drive to finish something.

Unfortunately these for unique instincts or voices don't often work in harmony, and it's only when they work in that I get the most out of my writing.

Tremors

I don't know why I like the Tremors series, but they are favorites of mine. They're technically listed as horror, but they're more comedy than anything.

And while I haven't watched them in a while... I'm just sort of in a Graboid move.

Random

Across this field, I stare,
Eight by eight
A space of hate.

Two steps forward,
I know my fate.

But move I must
For the fight is mine
Mine to die
And mine to make.

The mimicry to me,
It's almost like a mirror.

A knight of faith,
I know his place.

And with each step I take,
You play with grace.

I loathe you gander,
You despise my gait.

But the next is yours to make,
And so I wait.
