Unsung Heroes
Who will society go to shit without?? This includes farmers, ranchers, beekeepers, trash guys, mail carriers, water treatment workers, animal rescuers, teachers, and their aides and includes people like neighborhood watch leaders and scout troop leaders. The grandparents who give up their retirement plans to parent the grandkids, the church ladies who hold back that winter coat for the young single mother who always places her children’s needs first, the young boy who notices his friend never participates in “book week” or dress-up days so encourages other classmates to bring extras so nobody misses out, the dad who works extra shifts to support his family but buys dinner every Friday for the homeless Vietnam vet who sleeps in the park. Did you hear about the pizza guy that stopped the domestic violence? Or the vet techs who got a note slipped to them about the BF abusing her and they called the cops. The heroes that are never thought of as heroes.

This contest has been running for just over a month and still has no entries, so I'm encouraging participation. It's a pretty broad contest for people who've never entered one and has a reasonable minimum word count of 2,000 words.
This is also great way to start writing for people who haven't ever started, because they're nervous, as contests are anonymous.
The competition is running through June 22.
